Working with Eurocities
Osmangazi values its Eurocities membership because it helps the city turn European cooperation into practical local action. Through the network, Osmangazi can exchange experience with other cities, build partnerships and bring useful ideas into its work on mobility, culture, food, inclusion and sustainable urban development.
A clear example is Osmangazi’s participation as a Challenge City in the CIVITAS Replication and Deployment Programme. Through this programme, the city has worked with other European cities, mobility experts and academic partners on sustainable mobility in historic urban areas. During a study visit to Florence in June 2026, Osmangazi presented its Walk in History challenge, focused on better pedestrian connections, multimodal transport and higher quality public spaces in and around the UNESCO World Heritage area. The exchange is now informing plans for people-centred mobility hubs and low-emission connections in the historic centre.
Eurocities has also supported Osmangazi’s work on culture, inclusion and food. By signing the Eurocities Lille Call to Action for Sustainable and Inclusive Culture in Braga in June 2025, the city committed to making its cultural policies, events and heritage activities more environmentally responsible, accessible and inclusive. Through the CLEVERFOOD peer learning programme, Osmangazi is strengthening its work on sustainable urban food systems, including affordable food, municipal agriculture, community-based initiatives and youth involvement in local food policy.
Through conferences, the Social Affairs Forum, the Culture Forum, working groups and programmes such as CIVITAS, the city can share its experience, contribute to European discussions and learn from practical solutions developed by other cities. The network also helps Osmangazi build new partnerships, including Erasmus+ projects and city-to-city cooperation.
Beyond professional cooperation, it offers the opportunity to discover different countries and cultures, build genuine friendships with colleagues from across Europe and feel part of a wider European community of cities.
As an active member of Eurocities, Osmangazi aims to strengthen cooperation with European cities and contribute to shared discussions on inclusive culture, resilient historic cities, local democracy and sustainable urban transformation.
What people need to know about the city
We put people at the heart of everything.
Osmangazi, known as “Bursa’nın Kalbi” (the heart of Bursa), is the historic, cultural and civic centre of Bursa, one of Turkiye’s most important cities. As the core district of Bursa, Osmangazi brings together a unique urban landscape: the historic city centre, traditional bazaars, monumental heritage sites, vibrant neighbourhoods, the slopes of Uludağ and the productive Bursa plain.
As the place where Bursa’s layered history is most strongly felt, Osmangazi carries the legacy of the city as the first capital of the Ottoman Empire. Its khans, bazaars, mosques, tombs, külliyes, cultural routes and public spaces make the district one of Turkiye’s key heritage landscapes.
Nine letters, nine experiences, one city: OSMANGAZİ.

Together, these nine experiences reflect the spirit of Osmangazi: a city where heritage is not only something to protect, but something to live, share and pass on.
Osmangazi is not only a place of memory; it is a living urban centre where people work, learn, gather, produce, visit and shape the future of the city together.
With its people-centred approach, Osmangazi places citizens at the heart of urban life. Its future is shaped through social inclusion, participatory governance, youth engagement, accessible public spaces, sustainable mobility, digital transformation and climate-conscious urban development.
Osmangazi is the heart of Bursa: a district where people, heritage, nature and innovation come together to shape a more liveable and inclusive urban future.
