Contributing approximately 10% of the European GDP, tourism remains one of the continent’s most powerful economic engines. While tourism is a key enabler of growth, jobs creation, local development, and cultural exchange, it can also represent an additional stressor on popular destinations in terms of housing prices, resource consumption, and mobility flows. We work with our members and partners in the European Alliance on Balanced Urban Tourism to support cities in developing and implementing smart and sustainable approaches to tourism that involve local communities and deliver a good quality of life for both residents and visitors.
