Chernihiv is an ancient cradle of Ukrainian history. It is one of the oldest cities in Ukraine, which is more than 1,300 years old. From the first day of the Russian aggression in 2022, Chernihiv as a border city firmly held the defense. It restrained the enemy offensive on the way to Kyiv. The city was in a blockade for more than one month and was heavily ruined.
For its incredible resilience and heroism, Chernihiv was designated as a Hero City of Ukraine. The city of Chernihiv is one of the leaders of short-term recovery in close cooperation with international partners.
In 2023 the city of Chernihiv was awarded the Flag of Honor award by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe for spreading European ideals.
Currently, the city continues to recover and develop at full speed based on sustainability and inclusiveness. One of the large ambitions is to become the bicycle capital of Ukraine, which is steadily advancing.
