Situated in the heart of the UK, Leeds is the third largest and one of the fastest growing, greenest cities in the country.
With nearly a quarter of the city aged between 18 and 29 years old, the city is one of the youngest in the UK. This makes it a dynamic and vibrant place to live, work and visit. Leeds’ strength is in diversity, as over 140 nationalities have decided to call it home. It is an outward-looking city that champions international cooperation, with over 50 years’ experience working with international partners in China, Europe and beyond.
Leeds is built on a rich tradition of social innovation and continues to support and celebrate start-up companies that are working to solve society’s biggest, most urgent and challenging problems. The city’s pioneering work on healthcare and technology is helping more people worldwide live healthier, more productive, active and creative lives. Leeds is a leader in FinTech and HealthTech and has the only integrated open health data system in Britain, as well as being a home to world-leading research and development through its five universities.
Culture is a big part of the city. It has one of the longest running West Indian carnivals in Europe and it is the only English city outside of London to have its own resident opera and ballet companies – the internationally renowned and award-winning Opera North and Northern Ballet. Despite no longer being able to run for European Capital of Culture, the city is continuing with its plans for Leeds 2023, its international festival of culture.
Leeds is also a fantastic place to visit, live and study with award-winning national theatre and dance companies, a world-class arena, and a thriving independent food scene. Leeds plays host to major international sporting events, such as the Tour de Yorkshire, the Word Triathlon Series and world class cricket. And not to forget the city is home to the mighty Leeds United who have recently returned to the Premier League. The city has fantastic green spaces including one of the largest city parks in Europe, but it also has Yorkshire on its doorstep meaning Leeds is the perfect city to discover the Yorkshire Dales, Yorkshire Moors and stunning coastline.
