Nicosia

Working with Eurocities

For Nicosia, Eurocities provides a valuable platform for collaboration, knowledge exchange and collective advocacy. Through its forums and working groups, the city shares good practices, learns from other European cities and strengthens its policies on digital transformation, climate resilience, sustainable mobility, urban regeneration and citizen participation.

Membership has also expanded Nicosia’s European partnerships, supported participation in EU-funded projects and strengthened the city’s voice in debates on urban policy and funding.

A recent milestone was the adoption of the Nicosia Declaration on Empowering Cities as Strategic Partners in Delivering Europe’s Priorities across the MFF 2028–2034. Hosted by the Municipality of Nicosia in February 2026, the declaration brought together Europe’s capital cities to call for a stronger role for cities in shaping and implementing the next EU budget.

Eurocities helped promote the declaration’s messages to the European institutions. By hosting the event and contributing to the declaration, Nicosia reinforced its position as an active voice in the European urban agenda.

For Nicosia, the greatest value of Eurocities membership is knowing that cities do not face urban challenges alone. The network enables cities to learn from one another, develop solutions together and strengthen their collective influence in EU decision-making.
