Press release

Three new Directors at Eurocities

1 June 2023

Alex Godson, Sinéad Mullins and Brooke Flanagan each take on new roles as Directors at Eurocities from today.

“Eurocities has grown massively, doubling our staff numbers in five years, and creating the need to rethink our internal organisation,” said André Sobczak, Secretary General, Eurocities. “These roles represent three areas that are crucial for the further development of our network. Alex, Sinéad and Brooke have each contributed to our success, and I am pleased they have accepted to continue their commitment to Eurocities in these new roles.”

Mullins, who takes on the newly created role of Director of Outreach and Member Engagement, will head a new team working closely with Eurocities member cities. Since first joining Eurocities in 2004, she has taken on various leadership roles, including as Communications Team Leader, in developing Eurocities current graphic identity, and coordinating Eurocities’ annual conferences and publications.

Flanagan, who joined Eurocities in 2018, currently manages Eurocities engagement in the EU Climate Neutral and Smart Cities Mission and several climate projects, including NetZeroCities, and will further take on overall management responsibility for Eurocities work as Director for Climate and Environment. She previously worked for the Greater London Authority, as well as in numerous strategy, policy and project roles on climate, energy and environment.

Godson, who joined Eurocities in 2017, takes over a role that has been vacant for almost two years. As Communications Director, he will be responsible for a team of eight, as well as overall communications strategy. He has previously worked in communications roles for civil society, think tanks, and as a representative of private industry.

Notes to editors:

  1. Eurocities wants to make cities places where everyone can enjoy a good quality of life, is able to move around safely, access quality and inclusive public services and benefit from a healthy environment. We do this by networking more than 200 larger European cities, which together represent some 150 million people across 38 countries, and by gathering evidence of how policy making impacts on people to inspire other cities and EU decision makers.
