From improving energy efficiency in buildings to spelling the end of fossil fuelled mobility, the Fit for 55 package is a historic opportunity for Europe to accelerate the transition to climate neutrality, push towards energy independence, and improve health and people’s well-being. At present, transport and building sectors account for 65% of the EU’s overall greenhouse gas emissions. Local level efforts are indispensable to achieve decarbonisation of these sectors, while ensuring a level playing field for cities to implement ambitious policies in line with the European Green Deal and the EU Climate Law.
Together with EU representatives and the Eurocities Mayors Alliance for the European Green Deal, we will dive into the Fit for 55 buildings and transport toolbox to discuss and identify:
- critical policy drivers in the energy, buildings and mobility package to achieve the most impact on the ground
- ways of working together between levels of government, citizens and the private sector to reduce fragmentation and accelerate the transition
- good practices to address social equity and citizens participation aspects of the package
