When: Wednesday, 1 July | 18:30–20:00
Where: European Parliament, Brussels
As the EU advances its new competitiveness agenda and prepares negotiations on the European Competitiveness Fund (ECF) within the next Multiannual Financial Framework, one question stands out: how can Europe turn innovation into large-scale impact?
The answer starts in cities. Cities are where innovation ecosystems, industrial value chains, infrastructure, skills, and investment come together. They are not just implementing EU policy, they are driving Europe’s industrial transformation and competitiveness on the ground.
We invite you to join a high-level event in the European Parliament on Wednesday 1 July, from 18:30 – 20:00, exploring how Europe’s urban ecosystems can power the next industrial wave, and how the future European Competitiveness Fund can better support this ambition.
The event is hosted by MEP Giorgio Gori, Vice-Chair of the ITRE Committee, and co-organised by Eurocities.
The agenda will include:
- A presentation of new Eurocities – Euricur research on urban competitiveness, including the first-ever Eurocities Urban Competitiveness Pulse Survey, with insights from 60 cities across 22 countries on their role in Europe’s strategic value chains.
- Roundtable with city leaders on how local governments are accelerating industrial decarbonisation, fostering innovation, and scaling clean technologies through planning, procurement, and investment.
- Roundtable with MEPs and European Commission representatives on how the future European Competitiveness Fund can strengthen territorial ecosystems, improve access for cities and regions, and accelerate the deployment of strategic industries across Europe.
- Interactive discussion with participants, offering an opportunity for questions and exchange among policymakers, city representatives, and stakeholders.
This event will be a timely opportunity to discuss how Europe’s competitiveness strategy can fully leverage the strength of its urban ecosystems. You can view the draft agenda here.
