Local innovation ecosystems

Cities have a powerful story to tell about the potential of innovation to achieve and maintain growth, while also addressing common challenges such as climate change, decarbonisation, and health. Cities play a key role in creating a supportive ecosystem for technology, innovation, learning, and knowledge by bringing together different partners from universities to local businesses and SMEs. Entrepreneurship flourishes in cities, where the majority of SMEs are created and grow. City authorities - in partnership with local organisations, research and education centres, are well-placed to define the most appropriate strategies to create a favourable environment for the development of entrepreneurship, SMEs and the creation of new jobs. Cities offer not only the business opportunities but also the combination of services, support and infrastructure that entrepreneurs need.
