Trainee for migration and integration

We are recruiting a trainee to work on topics related to migration and integration, joining our team to cover both policy activities and project implementation for a period of one year (initially six months, renewable for an additional six months), ideally starting in March 2026.

Responsibilities

As a trainee, you will play an important role in Eurocities’ daily work, with a focus on topics linked to migration and integration. You will work with the Head of Migration and the Senior Project Coordinator, covering topics related to migration, integration and inclusion of migrants at refugees at the local level.

In this role, you will mainly support the team with the implementation of the EU-funded project CONSOLIDATE by:

  • Providing logistical support to the Migration Team, including on project and working group meetings, both online and onsite.
  • Supporting research, gathering and analysing data, and good practice examples on integration policy and projects in cities, and consolidating them into briefing notes and reports.
  • Monitoring policy initiatives and developments at the EU level and local level on topics such as migration, integration, social inclusion, and diversity.
  • Providing project administrative support, including drafting minutes and reports, providing events management support, reaching out to city members and other stakeholders.
  • Updating Eurocities’ web and social media pages and other communications-related tasks.

You have:

  • A university degree, preferably linked to migration, diversity and inclusion, human geography, sociology or political studies
  • Previous engagement in migration, integration and diversity fields, including in voluntary roles
  • Basic knowledge about migration and integration policies in the EU context, the EU institutions and the role of local authorities
  • A keen interest in local integration policies and service provision
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, other languages are an asset
  • Advanced writing skills
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Problem-solving approach
  • Attention to detail
  • Good interpersonal skills for an international environment
  • Experience with Microsoft Teams
  • Digital awareness for online meetings

  • A 1-year CIP traineeship contract (six months, renewable for another six months), starting in March 2026.

Due to the CIP requirements and conditions, the selected candidate will need to either live in Belgium or be willing to move to Belgium for the duration of the contract (candidates need to provide a Belgian address).
