Trainee for digital transformation

Eurocities is the network of major European cities, comprising more than 200 members, working across a wide range of thematic areas that reflect cities’ priorities.

We are recruiting a trainee to work on topics linked to digital transformation and smart cities, to become a member of the digital policies team for six months initially, renewable for another 6 months, ideally starting in March 2023.

Responsibilities

As trainee, you will play an important role in Eurocities’ daily work, with a focus on topics linked to digital transformation, smart cities and innovation. You will work with the Policy Advisor Digital Transformation covering topics such as data, standards, new and emerging technologies (AI, IoT, 5G, …), digital twins but also digital rights, digital inclusion and e-government, and innovation, and more.

In this role, you will:

  • monitor digital policy initiatives and developments at the EU level;
  • analyse digital policy documents, draft briefing notes and policy papers;
  • work on policy related activities and initiatives in which the network is involved (Living-in.EU, Cities Coalition for Digital Rights);
  • participate and contribute to internal and external meetings with members and EU representatives;
  • draft articles for the Digital Forum weekly newsletter as well as Eurocities newsletter, updating the Eurocities internal web pages on digital issues and other communications-related tasks;
  • assist in the organisation of forum and working group meetings, such as (online) knowledge exchange, workshops, webinars and discussions;
  • support project development work in the area of digital transformation;
  • support the organisation of the Digital Forum annual meeting;
  • give general support to the digital team.

Profile

You are proactive and enthusiastic about delivering positive results in a flexible manner.

You have:

  • a university degree, preferably linked to political science, international relations, EU policies, Urbanisation, etc.;
  • basic knowledge and interest about digital services in the European Union;
  • basic knowledge about digital policies in the EU (EU digital agenda, data strategy), the role of local authorities and the EU institutions;
  • excellent oral and written communications skills in English, other languages are an asset;
  • advanced writing skills;
  • excellent organisational skills;
  • problem-solving approach;
  • good interpersonal skills for an international environment;
  • experience with Microsoft Teams;
  • digital awareness for online meetings.

You are:

  • a dynamic team player;
  • able to work independently;
  • happy to take initiative;
  • agile in a changing environment with the ability to juggle competing deadlines.

We offer

  • a six-month traineeship contract, starting in March 2023, renewable for another 6 months;
  • a full-time position that will be carried out at Eurocities office in Brussels;
  • a remuneration of approximately €1,000 per month.

Important: Eurocities will provide you with a Belgian trainee contract (CIP “convention d’immersion professionnelle”). Due to the CIP requirements and conditions, the selected candidate will need to either live in Belgium or be willing to move to Belgium for the duration of the contract (candidates need to provide a Belgian address).
