Funded by DUT Partnership, FORTHCOMING (FOsteRing THe City Of proximity through Maas InteGration) will develop and test data-driven and user-centric 15-minute city models for suburban contexts, learning from central city best practices. The final goal is to foster the successful transfer of central city strategies to the suburbs, boosting the transition to climate-neutral, liveable, and inclusive cities.
Outskirts’ specific issues in relation to the 4 pillars (density, proximity diversity and digitalisation) of the 15-minute city model mean the uptake of the 15-minute city in low and mid-density zones requires adjustments and potentially different implementation procedures. Based on the evidence from six European Urban Living Labs, FORTHCOMING will provide a comprehensive analysis of policy transferability for 15-minute City strategies, optimize their implementation in suburban settings, and produce an impact assessment.
Within the project, particular focus is placed on digitalisation, through ICT MaaS and LaaS tools and how they can provide solutions to site-specific problems and support 15-minute City model development in the outskirts.
