Cities demand action from EU Commission

29 November 2019

Network EUROCITIES launches ‘100 days’ campaign.

Major European cities call on the new European Commission to take clear action in its first 100 days. Outlining twelve calls to action, the cities challenge the Commission to take more ambitious efforts in fighting climate change, boosting digital transformation and improving social inclusion.

With the start of the new Commission on 1 December, EUROCITIES launches a campaign called ‘100 days, 100 ways’. “We want to highlight some of the priorities for cities in Europe, like a more sustainable mobility and the fight against poverty”, says Anna Lisa Boni, secretary general of EUROCITIES. “At the same time, we want to offer good examples of how cities tackle European challenges on a local level.”

Every day a new story from a city will be published on the website of the campaign, 100days.eurocities.eu “Cities are leaders in many respects,” says Boni. “The examples of our cities can inspire Europe and the new Commission.”

EUROCITIES also calls for a better involvement of cities in EU policy making. “Cities are the level of government closest to the people,” says Anna Lisa Boni. “They deserve a seat at the table of European politics.”
