Freelance Writer & Communications Specialist

Eurocities, the network of major European cities, is seeking a talented and motivated Freelance Writer and Communications Specialist to work alongside our dynamic team.

The candidate would primarily be collaborating with Eurocities between March and May 2024 to write nine well-researched articles involving interviews with key personalities in our member cities.

About our collaboration

The selected candidate will play a pivotal role in researching, writing, and promoting stories based on shortlisted entries to the Eurocities Awards.

For the right candidate, additional ad-hoc support to our communications team may also be requested, to cover various communication tasks.

Responsibilities

As Freelance Writer, you will:

  • Research and write nine compelling stories based on shortlisted awards from Eurocities member cities.
  • Coordinate with relevant city representatives to organise multiple interviews with two or more personalities in each city and gather necessary information and visual material.
  • Ensure stories are engaging, well-researched, and aligned with Eurocities’ communication objectives and style.

As a Communications Specialist, your possible tasks will include working directly with the Eurocities Communications Director to:

  • Provide ad-hoc support to the communication team during the specified period.
  • Write articles for the Eurocities website and other media outlets.
  • Proofread and edit colleagues’ work for accuracy and consistency.
  • Contribute to the creation of newsletters.
  • Read and edit policy papers, ensuring clarity and adherence to Eurocities’ communication standards.

Profile

You are an experienced freelance writer with a strong portfolio of published articles and stories.

The skills and experience to do this job successfully include:

  • excellent research and interview skills;
  • at least three years experience in writing for an established media;
  • previous experience in communications roles;
  • problem-solving approach;
  • experience working autonomously and as part of a team;
  • organised & accurate, able to meet deadlines;
  • strong communication and collaboration skills;
  • full proficiency in English.

Assets:

  • understanding pressing urban challenges;
  • other languages.

We offer

€5,000 for the completion of nine website articles following the process listed above; with possible further work to be discussed separately.

Timeline

The selected candidate will be required to work intensively between March and May 2024.
