Eurocities Shadow Commissioners meet MEPs in Strasbourg

06 Oct - 07 Oct

One year after hosting the European Mayors’ Summit and the signing of the European mayors’ declaration for a better Europe, the city of Strasbourg will host the Eurocities Shadow Commissioners meeting on 6-7 October 2025.

At this event, European city leaders will meet with Members of the European Parliament to demonstrate that local leaders are key allies in the European project. They will discuss the most pressing issues for city governments, including climate action and the next seven-year EU budget.

The Eurocities Shadow Commission aims to bring the voice of city leaders as direct political counterparts to the EU’s College of European Commissioners, and to influence EU policies related to cities. The Shadow Commission is composed of a President, ten Vice-Presidents responsible for key priorities, and 13 pairs of Commissioners covering specific areas.

Over two days, city leaders in the Shadow Commission will hold bi-lateral meetings with MEPS and take part in the opening of the European Parliament’s plenary session, illustrating concrete urban challenges and the local solutions implemented by cities.

Jeanne Barseghian, Mayor of Strasbourg and Eurocities Shadow Commissioner for Local Europe, will take part in the discussions and events.
