Project coordinator – citizen science

Eurocities is the network of major European cities, comprising more than 200 members, working across a wide range of thematic areas that reflect cities’ priorities.

We are currently recruiting a project coordinator to lead our work on citizen science and the CitiObs project. The candidate would ideally start in April 2023.

Responsibilities

As project coordinator, you will be responsible for Eurocities citizen science activities and those within the CitiObs project.

CitiObs is a 4-year Horizon Europe project with €5 million budget and 14 partners. Eurocities leads the work package on co-creation of data and actions for cities with Citizen Observatories, as well as work on integrating the experiences and findings into multi-level policy.

You will work as part of the Climate Neutrality Team.  In this role, you will:

  • lead on the implementation of the project:
    • manage the project, technically and financially
    • manage the relationship with the project partners and the European Commission
    • coordinate activities of all relevant work packages
    • design and implement activities and strategies to support the implementation of the work packages
    • organise workshops, training, awareness raising events, dissemination activities, publication of best practices, knowledge-sharing activities
    • promote project results and activities internally and externally
    • draft technical and financial reports
    • travel as required for the purposes of the project
  • make links between the projects and the relevant Eurocities working groups and other projects and policy
  • support project development in cooperation with the head of climate neutrality and the projects & knowledge sharing director
  • work with the head of climate neutrality to develop a strategy for citizen science for Eurocities

Profile

You are an experienced professional who is full of initiative, self-driven, curious, creative, flexible and results oriented. The skills and experience to do this job successfully include:

  • at least 5 years of relevant work experience
  • at least 3 years of work experience in the field of project management, preferably of EU projects
  • in-depth and up-to-date knowledge of citizens science, as well as citizens engagement policies and practices
  • an excellent capacity to create strong stakeholder engagement and the ability to find common ground and compromises in complex work processes
  • experience in working with local and city governments or public sector partners
  • full proficiency in English, spoken and written
  • experience in event management and workshop design and facilitation
  • experience in working with multiple stakeholders at transnational level
  • good networking abilities and interpersonal skills for an international environment
  • excellent relationship management, coordination, and communications skills

Assets:

  • other languages
  • experience translating project work into policy recommendations
  • knowledge of the functioning of the EU institutions, policy priorities and main policy developments
  • experience writing project proposals

We offer

  • an open-ended contract, linked to the length of the project (planned for 4 years), starting in April 2023
  • a full-time contract either as:
    • an employee, under Belgian legislation. The selected candidate will need to either live in Belgium or be willing to move to Belgium for the duration of the contract (candidates need to provide a Belgian address). Or
    • a freelancer, based in any EU country and able to prove freelancer status as a natural person.
  • 3.200€ – 3.600€ monthly gross salary, according to profile and experience
