Eurocities, the network of major European cities, is looking for a trainee to work along with its Finance team in supporting the implementation of EU funded projects.

We are recruiting a trainee to work on the financial follow up of Eurocities’ projects, especially in the field of Social Affairs, for 1 year (six months, renewable for another 6 months), ideally starting mid-April 2024.

Responsibilities

As a trainee, you will play an important role in Eurocities’ daily work, working together with the Finance team in supporting the financial life cycle of Eurocities projects. In this role, you will:

  • Assist with the financial and administrative preparations of project proposals and tenders.
  • Contribute to the financial follow-up of ongoing projects, especially in the field of Social Affairs, including the financial organisation of events.
  • Support the continuous improvement of financial procedures and processes.
  • Provide logistical support to the finance team (update of financial tools and databases, archiving of documents, etc.)

Profile

You are a person who is curious and full of initiative, and you have a knack for numbers.

You have:

  • a bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, economic sciences or management
  • a keen interest in the European Union and the role of local authorities
  • good command of MS Excel
  • excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Other languages are an asset
  • excellent organisational skills
  • problem-solving approach
  • good interpersonal skills for an international environment
  • experience with Microsoft Teams
  • digital awareness for online meetings

You are:

  • a dynamic team player
  • able to work independently
  • agile in a changing environment with the ability to juggle competing deadlines.

We offer

  • a 1-year traineeship contract (six-month renewable for another 6 months), starting in April 2024
  • a full-time position that will be carried out at Eurocities office in Brussels
  • a remuneration of approximately €1,000 per month.

Important: Eurocities will provide you with a Belgian trainee contract (CIP “convention d’immersion professionnelle”). Due to the CIP requirements and conditions, the selected candidate will need to either live in Belgium or be willing to move to Belgium for the duration of the contract (candidates need to provide a Belgian address).

A longlist of candidates will be drawn up, with pre-selected candidates invited to a one-hour remote test. On the basis of the test results, shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview on 27 February & 6 March 2024 (please note that the interviews will be scheduled either in person in Brussels, or remotely on Teams).
