Science|Business : Horizon Europe moonshot draws up ‘fast and radical’ plan for sustainable cities

Eurocities is involved in what is to become one of the flagship projects within the European research and innovation programme Horizon Europe. From 2021, five ‘missions’, partly inspired by the Apollo 11 mission to put a man on the moon, will seek to answer specific societal challenges.

The mission for climate neutral and smart cities, which is aiming to create 100 climate neutral cities by 2030, will provide crucial input for the EU in its quest to establish net-zero carbon dioxide emissions across the continent by 2050.

In an article for Science|Business, Anna Lisa Boni, Eurocities’ Secretary General, who is one of the 15 experts on the mission board for climate neutral and smart cities, comments, “we agreed that we need to act now, fast and in a radical way.”
