Sarajevo

Very few cities in the world can offer such a variety of interesting things in such a small area as Sarajevo does. Historical attractions, natural beauty and unique experience of a place where East meets West. This is why so many visitors keep coming to Sarajevo.

Winter offers plenty of opportunities for winter sports and recreation in the snow. There are only a handful of cities in the world that can boast to have developed at the foothill of at least three Olympic mountains, Trebević, Igman and Bjelašnica.

Spring and autumn, with their mild climate offer opportunities for pleasant exploration of natural beauty on the outskirts, and a vibrant programme of cultural events in the city. Summer is a time when the city, its squares and streets become an on-the-go holiday; it is the time when the city is alive 24/7. This is especially emphasized during the Sarajevo Film Festival when the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina becomes the centre of the region.

Development of culture in Sarajevo rests on several pillars. Its captivating history, and a number of cultural and historical landmarks from different eras, such as the Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian periods, have made this city a true museum under the open sky.

Sarajevo is a city of cafes and gardens, as one of its main features, having been for so long on caravan trails, is transporting goods from the east to the west and vice versa. From the well-known caravanserai to lodgings in Kolobara han, Tašlihana and Morića han to modern hotels, this city has always had a sizable number of catering facilities for guest accommodation and even more of its good cafes, rest areas and summer gardens for vacation and leisure of travelers.

Sarajevo was and remains a city open to everyone. Openness and hospitality of Sarajevo was best evidenced during the 14th Winter Olympics in 1984, as well as EYOF, that was held in 2019, when both contestants and guests felt at home.
