Brussels seminar: Cities’ central role in climate adaptation

From 08 Oct to 08 Oct 2024

In the context of the European Week of Regions and Cities (EWRC), Eurocities is co-organising an in-person seminar in Brussels focused on the central role of cities in driving climate adaptation.

The event, titled ‘Climate Resilience by 2050: The Catalytic Role of European Cities in Adaptation,’ is being organised by Eurocities and CIDOB’s Global Cities Programme, with the support of Barcelona City Council. The event is being hosted by Brussels Capital Region.

Event information

As 2023 has been marked as the warmest year on record, the urgency for climate adaptation has never been greater.

Despite the focus on mitigation, the need to enhance adaptation strategies at the local level is critical, especially as cities face increasing challenges from extreme weather events. With 75% of European citizens living in urban areas, the role of cities in driving climate resilience is paramount.

This seminar will bring together policymakers, experts, and city leaders to discuss the challenges and opportunities of climate adaptation in European cities.

It will provide a platform for dialogue on the necessary multilevel governance mechanisms, public-private partnerships, and capacity-building efforts needed to enhance local climate resilience.

In particular, we will deep dive into the results of the Eurocities Pulse Mayors Survey 2024 which presents the perspective of city leaders on climate adaption and hear directly from cities how they are trying to lead the way with innovative policies.

Registration is open!

The event will take place on 8 October 2024, from 14:00 to 16:00, at Perspective Brussels, Rue de Namur 59, Brussels, Belgium.
