On 11 December 2019, the European Commission released its European Green Deal Communication aiming at making Europe the first climate-neutral continent by 2050. Eurocities welcomes this ambitious agenda and recommends:
- European cities are key actors to ensure the transition towards a climate-neutral society.
- The European Green Deal must be backed by financial resources to empower and support cities in achieving a fair and inclusive transition.
- New and more effective ways of involving city leaders, authorities, and citizens are needed to establish a political dialogue across levels of government.
