This working group will focus on supporting business creation and development and skills development in cities, supporting our objective of long-term economic development


Cities are the engines of growth in Europe. They will also be the engines of recovery. Entrepreneurship flourishes in cities, where the majority of SMEs are created and grow. City authorities, in partnership with local organisations, are well-placed to define the most appropriate strategies to create a favourable environment for the development of entrepreneurship and creation of new jobs. Cities offer not only the business opportunities but also the combination of services, support and infrastructure that entrepreneurs need.
 
The main working group objectives are to promote the exchange of ideas, knowledge and good practices between cities, including its local ecosystems and communities, and act as lobbying structure aiming to support SME and entrepreneurs ‘activities in European urban centers. 
 
 
Main achievements from 2019:
 
Achievement 1:
- Continuing promoting the exchange of ideas, knowledge and good practices between cities, including its local ecosystems and communities, acting as lobbying structure aiming to support SME and entrepreneurs activities in European urban centers.
 
Achievement 2:
- Lobbying on a stronger recognition of cities in the field of entrepreneurship also through specific EU processes.
 
Achievement 3:
- Exchange of best-practices and monitoring of actions of SMEs in relation to the SDGs.
 
 
Specific objectives for 2020 are:
 
Objective 1:
- Improve knowledge how to foster the entrepreneurship and SME’s competitiveness and facilitate sustainable growth.
How do you want to achieve it?
- Exchange and monitor on the SMEs support from EU, especially in context of new priorities of the European Commission.
 
Objective 2:
- Exchange of knowledge/ Mutual learning on how to foster the entrepreneurship and SME’s competitiveness and facilitate sustainable growth.
How do you want to achieve it?
- Mutual learning during working group meeting, exchange with task force on SGDs, cooperation with Committee of the Regions in context of European Entrepreneurship Award and capitalisation on the good practices. 
 
Objective 3:
- Exchange and monitor on the SMEs support from EU, especially in context of new priorities of the European Commission.
How do you want to achieve it?
- Organise meeting focus on the policy update, monitor and exchange views, map entry points for WG in context of cooperation with EU institutions.
