In spring 2018 European Commission released a guidance on sharing private sector data in the European data economy. One important part of this document is a 'How to do' guideline for the Business to Government (B2G) data sharing.
Briefing note on B2G data sharing
In EUROCITIES, we prepared a briefing note of this guideline (can be downloaded below) with special attention to the principles, models and legal and technical means for B2G data sharing.
In addition, we added also some examples from cities, which already have these kinds of B2G data sharing agreements in place. If in your city, you are interested to share similar agreements with other EUROCITIES members, please, don't hesitate to contact Federica Bordelot (email@example.com).
Furthermore, the European Commission is also interested in good examples and city expertise.
Call for an Expert Group on B2G data-sharing
On 24 August, European Commission published a call for applications for the selection of members of an expert group on access to and re-use of private sector data for public interest purposes.
The objectives of the expert group are to endorse a framework for Business-to-Government (B2G) data sharing, on the basis of the guidance and to provide the Commission with recommendations on future policy and funding initiatives in the area of private sector data sharing with public bodies for public interest purposes.
The group will consist of up to 24 members, each acting in their personal capacity – independently from the organisation in which they work and in the public interest.
The composition of the group will be such that it reflects a balanced representation of experts with a high level of experience in different areas and sectors (with experience in the public and/or private sector), also ensuring to the extent possible geographical and gender balance.
The group will meet a maximum of five times, in Brussels. The first meeting is planned for November 2018 and it is expected that the group will complete its work by the end of 2019.
If you are interested in applying to this call, further information on the expert group and the application procedure is available here: https://ec.europa.eu/digital-single-market/en/news/call-applications-expert-group-business-government-data-sharing.
Considering the work EUROCITIES is doing on the urban agenda, digital transition partnership (EUROCITIES is leading an action specifically on facilitating access to and re-use of private sector data for public interest purpose by public bodies) and our regular contacts with the Commission, in case you are interested in replying to the call please DO also inform me at: firstname.lastname@example.org , thanks.
The deadline for submitting applications is 28 September 2018.
