Building on the success of the Covenant of Mayors, the Mayors Adapt initiative, launched in 2014, invites cities to voluntarily commit to anticipating and preparing for the inevitable impacts of climate change.
Signatory cities undertake to contribute to the EU’s adaptation strategy by developing comprehensive local adaptation strategies or integrating these into relevant existing plans. Since 15 October 2015, the Covenant of Mayors and Mayors Adapt have been progressively integrated into a new Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy. Mayors Adapt is an initiative of the European Commission supported by the European Environment Agency (EEA). EUROCITIES is part of the Mayors Adapt consortium, together with two other city networks (Climate Alliance and CEMR) and consultancies (Ecofys, Fresh Thoughts and IFOK).
