'Culture for cities and regions' pilot project

We are leading a new initiative, 'Culture for cities and regions', which aims to examine existing examples of culture as a key element in local and regional development strategies. It will also enable the exchange and transfer of knowledge to better understand successful examples of cultural investment and go into detail on policy planning and implementation.

MEPs and cities call for strong air quality package

Our debate on cleaner air in our cities on 28 January at the European Parliament was a chance for MEPs and cities to push for a strong National Emissions Ceilings (NEC) Directive to improve air quality. The event, hosted by Julie Girling MEP, rapporteur on the NEC Directive, came at a critical point for the future of Europe's air quality, and for the health and wellbeing of our citizens.

New Europe-wide campaign on sustainable urban mobility

European Mobility Week and Do the Right Mix have joined forces to promote sustainable travel in European cities. European Mobility Week, taking place each year on 16-22 September, will remain the centrepiece of the campaign, but will be complemented by promotional actions throughout the year.

Cities in action: Los Limoneros, Malaga

The Los Limoneros social housing complex, in one of Malaga's most deprived neighbourhoods, has recently undergone a complete energy refurbishment programme. This was one of a series of attempts to improve the energy efficiency of the building, and its success was down to the city's efforts to properly engage residents in the process from the outset.
