Save the date for the Roundtable of General Directors of Social Affairs on 23-24 January in Amsterdam! The meeting will focus on the ‘rising inequalities and segregation in European cities’.

Theme of the meeting

Cities are witnessing increasingly complex social realities, which bring both new challenges and new opportunities for people. The two days meeting will explore what are the raising inequalities and how are cities addressing them. Also, it will focus on the good practices and cooperation with regional and national level. The meeting will give the opportunity to connect the local responses to the EU social agenda by linking them with the European Pillar of Social Rights, European Semester and the European Social Fund Plus.

Why attend the meeting?

In order to share knowledge and work on a common strategy on addressing the complex social challenges, City of Amsterdam together with EUROCITIES is organising the first meeting of the General Director of social affairs. This meeting will give the General Director the chance to discuss vital issues regarding inequalities and segregation in the European cities. Also, it will explore the possibilities of cooperation in a formal ‘roundtable on raising inequalities' within the EUROCITIES framework.

Key questions addressed during the meeting are:

        What trends do we see when it comes to the inequality in cities?

        What is the role of local governments within the complex network of stakeholders in tackling social challenges?

        How can we work better together as cities in tackling inequality in the EU?

Logistical aspects

The meeting will start on 23 January 2020, at 12.00 and it will finish on 24 January at 16.00. The city of Amsterdam will cover the cost of the meeting, including the accommodation for 23 January. Travel costs will be covered by the participants. 

The meeting is addressed exclusively to the General Directors of social affairs. They can be accompanied by a policy advisor.

The final agenda will be shared early January.
