On 19 July, the European Commission launched a public consultation on Transformation of Health and Care in the Digital Single Market. The aim of the consultation is to obtain input on the ways of promoting digital innovation in health care and to better define measures needed to deal with challenges in European health care systems.
The consultation is dealing with three main areas:
- The question of portability, cross-border access and interoperability of personal health data in European context and in regards to citizens’ rights, particularly protection of personal data;
- Addressing resource and knowledge sharing, that shall lead to enhanced research and prevention of complex diseases, epidemics as well as assessment of effectiveness of pharmaceutical products;
- Promoting digital innovation in health care which would support the patient-centered approach and improve the quality of interaction between citizens and healthcare providers.
The consultation targets wide variety of actors, including public authorities, healthcare providers, businesses and citizens. The deadline to submit the inputs is set to 12 October 2017. You can find the link with the questionnaire here.
The contributions to consultation, which was already foreshadowed in the recent mid-term review of Digital Single Market Strategy, shall be used to draft the new Communication that will be adopted by the end of 2017.
We kindly ask any EUROCITIES members who decide to answer the consultation to send the copy of the response to Federica.Bordelot@eurocities.eu.
