Join us in Ghent on 27-30 November 2013
We now have a complete panel for our mayors’ debate at EUROCITIES 2013 Ghent, taking place on 27-30 November 2013. Our annual conference will this year explore the theme of ‘smart citizens’ and how they can contribute to making our cities smarter, more inclusive and more sustainable.
Among those taking part are: Eberhard van der Laan, mayor of Amsterdam; Matteo Lepore, deputy mayor of Bologna; Margret Mergen, deputy mayor of Karlsruhe; Sten Nordin, mayor of Stockholm; and Anna-Kaisa Ikonen, mayor of Tampere. They will present experiences of collaboration with smart citizens from their cities.
The conference will also include a keynote speech by Dan Hill, CEO of Fabrica, a communications research centre and transdisciplinary studio. The plenary discussions will be hosted by journalist, broadcaster and writer Nick Conrad.
A number of hands-on workshops will explore the theme of smart citizens around Ghent. These will include opportunities to meet Ghent’s smart citizens and discover the projects they are helping to realise: from a local currency to a long term plan for carbon neutrality. This is your chance to find out what works and what doesn’t, and share your own experiences!
The 2013 edition of the EUROCITIES awards will also take place, and there will be plenty of opportunities for networking with colleagues from across Europe.
Johannes Hahn, European commissioner for regional policy, will address our private political session.
Find out more at the conference website below. We look forward to seeing you in Ghent!
