Genoa calls on cities to join them at the next EUROCITIES Environment Forum to sign the Covenant of Mayors 2030 emission reduction target. Signatory cities pledge action to support implementation of the EU 40% greenhouse gas-reduction target by 2030 and the adoption of a joint approach to tackling mitigation and adaptation to climate change.

Our next Environment Forum will take place in Genoa on 3-5 April 2019 on the topic: ‘Building Resilient Cities: from Challenges to Opportunities’.

Please find the latest version of the draft agenda at the following link: https://bit.ly/2RyMYNN .

The Forum aims to improve understanding of what challenges cities face and what it means to be a climate resilient city. By assessing different resilience strategies from cities across Europe, participants will discuss what aspects of these strategies can be transferred and replicated, as well as discussing possible barriers and solutions. Deep-dive sessions will explore risk assessment, reflections on how to make the whole community resilient and techniques to create stakeholder partnerships to build resilience at the city level. We will also have a session dedicated to the key issue of including preservation of cultural and natural heritage in cities' resilience strategies.

On Wednesday 3 April, the Forum will host a Signing Ceremony of the Covenant of Mayors, where politicians from cities that have adopted the 2030 targets will gather to publicly sign their commitment. We are very pleased to announce that politicians from the city of Genoa, Porto, Oslo, Turin and Milan (tbc) will sign on this occasion. EUROCITIES secretary general, Anna Lisa Boni, will open the ceremony and we will also welcome a speaker from the European Commission. The Signing Ceremony will be followed by an Official Dinner.

Genoa invites cities to be part of this important moment of political engagement for the future of climate action! Please find attached Genoa’s Official letter of invitation. For any information please contact: heather.brooks@eurocities.eu .

Please note that prior to the official signature in Genoa, the municipal council must undertake a process to formally adopt the 2030 Covenant of Mayors targets, which can require some time. Please find here the guidelines with all the steps to prepare for the official signature. If you have any questions please contact claire.baffert@eurocities.eu.
We look forward to seeing you in Genoa!
