Our EUROCITIES working group on social inclusion through education will meet on 27-29 November 2019 in Vienna. The meeting will be hosted by the Board of Education for Vienna - the city's regional education authority. Responsible for almost 700 schools, approx. 240,000 pupils and students and 27,000 teachers, the Board of Education for Vienna strives to provide all pupils with opportunities that enable them to maximise their learning potential, through a well-rounded and inclusive education.
The demands of society with regard to school-leavers is constantly changing, therefore, the Board of Education for Vienna has set itself several strategic aims, as it endeavours to keep pace with social and economic developments. These strategic aims are incorporated into teaching and learning across all school types and age groups, and are supported by several projects and initiatives that are exemplified in the site visits.
Strategic Aims of the Board of Education for Vienna include:
· Rights of children and young people
· Basic competences
· Entrepreneurship education
· Use of new technology
· Professional development of teachers and leaders
The site visits have been organised to include schools and educational institutions that cover educational pathways from early childhood education, through primary, lower secondary and pre-vocational education, as well as teacher-training and continual professional development in leadership skills.
The study visit will follow the 'critical friend review' methodology whereby the visiting cities do not only learn from the good practices showcased, but also provide suggestions and recommendations to Vienna on how to further improve its education policy and practices.
We look forward to welcoming you to an exciting and thought-provoking visit to Vienna!
