In the framework of this year's EU Green Week theme 'Take the initiative! Applying environmental legislation', Lille Metropole will organise a conference and networking event on 'Urban adaptation to climate change' taking place on 25 April 2019 at the European Committee of the Regions.
As the European urban context faces new issues related to climate change such as record-breaking heatwaves, pollution peaks or waste management, a number of solutions to fight against climate change and mitigate it in the best conditions are thought out locally, at municipal level. As Lille Metropole currently revises its local Climate and Energy Plan and is on the eve of becoming World Design Capital in 2020, this conference will be an opportunity to present some of the local strategies covering the areas of nature, food self-sufficiency, water, air and soil and to highlight initiatives co-designed and implemented with citizens. Participants will discuss concrete city and urban area resilience schemes, levers at metropolitan scale and European support provided to cities to deal with these major issues in the best conditions.
